I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

If there is still water leaking, turn off the water to the appliance or fixture if possible, or go straight to the main shutoff valve for your home. If you are unable to locate the tap to turn off, then you may want to try turning on all the cold water taps inside and outside the residence to depressurise the pipework and reduce the leak.
